Overview

The Food Waste Atlas™ is the world’s first freely accessible online tool to bring global food loss and waste data together in one place, enabling the tracking of food loss and waste across food types, sectors, and geography.

Atlas contains inventories from countries, cities, companies and other organizations about the amount of food being lost or wasted within their own operations or boundaries.

Key benefits

  • Provides essential insights into the scale and location of food loss and waste;
  • Helps users focus on where in the supply chain they might profitably act to reduce food loss and waste; and
  • Makes it simpler to measure and track food loss and waste in a consistent manner, benchmark performance, and identify ‘hotspots’.

Atlas also enables users to report data on food loss and waste, either anonymously or publicly, in conformance with the Food Loss and Waste Standard.

The Food Waste Atlas supports the delivery of UN Sustainable Development Goal 12.3“By 2030, halve per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer levels and reduce food losses along production and supply chains, including post-harvest losses”.

The Food Waste Atlas has been developed by WRAP in partnership with the World Resource Institute with financial support provided by the Walmart Foundation.
