Overview

Stop Wasting Food movement Denmark (Stop Spild Af Mad) celebrates its 10 year anniversary! Stop Wasting Food movement is Denmark’s largest non-profit movement against food waste, which has initiated the fight against food waste in Denmark. Since its foundation in 2008, Stop Wasting Food helped bring a huge focus on food waste to Denmark’s agenda and has achieved a large number of results in Denmark and in collaboration in projects with the Danish Government, EU and UN. We’ve started the fight against food waste in Denmark and we put Denmark’s fight against food waste on the world map.

Stop Wasting Food has national and international collaborations and support of over 60,000 people, a number of leading top politicians and acknowledged food personalities, as well as Denmark’s former Prime Minister. Stop Wasting Food has featured in national and international media, including the BBC and CNN. Stop Wasting Food actively works with the implementation of UN Sustainable Development Goal 12.3. Since 2008, we have both initiated and participated in over 200 local, national and international projects, events, campaigns, charity projects, research projects, debates and many other activities in the fight against food waste. The most recent numbers from the Danish Environmental Protection Agency show that Danish consumers have reduced food waste by 14,000 tonnes in 6 years.

Stop Wasting Food won numerous awards and is also a partner of the United Nations SAVE FOOD initiative, FAO/UNEP Think.Eat.Save campaign and the former EU FUSIONS project. It is also a member of the European Commission’s EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste, the Champions 12.3 global coalition against food losses and food waste, the Danish Minister for the Environment’s Partnership on Less Food Waste, and the Danish Minister for the Environment’s Global Strategic Partnership for World Food Summit – Better Food for More People. It is also a contributor to the Joint Declaration Against Food Waste and Food Loss & Waste Protocol.

The Stop Wasting Food movement also ran several food waste events with participation of Her Royal Highness Princess Marie of Denmark and His Royal Highness Prince Joachim of Denmark.

We are on the right track – but there is still a lot of food waste in the world, so our work has just begun.   Thank you for the great collaboration. We look forward to the next 10 years.
