Your left-overs can NOT be used as farm animal feed!
Email to a friendUnder current EC legislation, you must never use catering waste or kitchen scraps as farm animal feed, regardless of whether it’s vegetable or meat based or whether it comes from from restaurants, households, or other sites.

Catering and household waste are foodstuff residues resulting from food preparation and human consumption at catering facilities or people’s homes. The use of these leftovers in animal feed for food producing animals is prohibited in the EU. This ban, dating from 2002, aims to minimize the risk of transmission of animal diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease and classical swine fever. Earlier outbreaks of these types of animal diseases have caused enormous losses to European farming communities, likely due to bad feeding practices that didn’t guarantee safety and quality. Any future consideration of reintroducing the feeding of kitchen leftovers will need to be supported by adequate risk management procedures underpinned by authoritative scientific evidence.
