About this site

We actively promote a collaborative approach to tackling the issue of food waste. There is a wealth of information focused on food loss and waste across the EU, and about solutions dedicated to reducing it.

This knowledge sharing platform offers users a dedicated space to find and share information about proven solutions and innovative new approaches to reduce the volume of surplus food generated, feed hungry people, and divert food and scraps to the highest beneficial use.

Using the site

The Community of Experts is a virtual resource centre for stakeholders to easily find and share information about food loss and waste across the EU.  All visitors to the site are able to browse resources, but to comment on or upload resources, membership of the site is required.

Answers to commonly asked questions will eventually be collated to form a separate FAQ page. In the meantime, if you have a specific question please get in touch with us via our contact page.

About us

The REFRESH: Community of Experts was initiated as part of the Horizon 2020 funded research project REFRESH (2015-19). The original purpose of this site was to provide a platform on which to share expertise and best practice, enabling the replication of the Framework for Action approach being piloted in the project.
The partners involved in REFRESH are detailed HERE, together with more information about the project.

In 2017 the REFRESH project and DG SANTE identified an opportunity to collaborate and use this site as a key knowledge sharing platform for the EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste (FLW). The EU and Member States are committed to meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), adopted in September 2015, including a target to halve per capita food waste at the retail and consumer level by 2030, and reduce food losses along the food production and supply chains.
Further details about the EU Platform and its membership can be found HERE.
