Publication “Systematische Erfassung von Lebensmittelabfällen der privaten Haushalte”

Overview

Under the title “Zu gut für die Tonne” (too good for the bin), the BMEL has launched an information campaign against wasting food (www.zugutfuerdietonne.de). The aim of this initiative is to contribute to reducing food waste in all areas of production. In order to be able to efficiently implement the measures and control their effectiveness, it is necessary to have as accurate and up-to-date information as possible on the quantities of food waste and the disposable behaviour of private households. Against this background, a diary study was designed which was carried out in a representative sample of private households of Germany. Ideally, the study should cover a period of 12 months in order to identify seasonal differences and to guarantee a projection independent of seasonal effects.
